Onlookers at a Jeff Beck concert in Sheffield were taken aback when Johnny Depp appeared unexpectedly with his guitar on Sunday night.
The 58-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean star took the stage in Pittsburgh as part of Beck’s current European tour, and fans took to social media to express their delight.
According to observers, Depp sung his cover of Isolation, which was originally a John Lennon song and was published by Depp and Beck in 2020. Depp is now locked in a bitter legal dispute with ex-wife Amber Heard.
The song has recently re-entered the charts in the wake of the actor’s ongoing legal battle with Heard, which will be determined on Tuesday. “Just got to watch Jeff Beck in Sheffield City Hall, he had a surprise special visitor, Johnny Depp!!” one Twitter user remarked after sharing a videotape of the performance.
Another exclaimed: “I can’t stop crying because Johnny Depp is in Sheffield!!!!! “I’m going on a road trip,” a third stated, while another added, “Johnny is a complete lunatic… #JohnnyDepp leaves court Friday..playing a show in Sheffield, UK on Sunday..with Jeff Beck…mind blown.”
“JOHNNY DEPP IS IN SHEFFIELD,” wrote a fourth, who was equally surprised by his appearance.
Depp has dabbled in the music industry before, having been a member of Alice Cooper’s side project band The Hollywood Vampires. His visit to the UK would have been a nice break from his high-profile legal dispute with his actress ex.
Depp is suing Heard for defamation after she wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post about alleged domestic violence, albeit she did not name her ex-husband.
He is seeking more than £38 million in damages, saying that the domestic abuse allegations have harmed his career and image irreparably. After claiming that a former attorney of Depp, Adam Waldman, unjustly accused her of creating events against the actor, the Aquaman actress has filed a countersuit against him, asking over £78 million in damages.
The case began on April 11 and ended on Friday with final remarks. The jury is currently deliberating the verdict.
