Warning issued to Anyone Applying for a New Passport
The UK Home Office has warned Bradford holidaymakers to allow 10 weeks for new passports if they plan to travel abroad this summer. The 10-week deadline was introduced during the coronavirus pandemic and will remain in place due to the elevated and volatile demand for travel documents. The Home Secretary has advised people to apply in good time and not at the last minute. However, figures obtained by the Liberal Democrats indicate that the number of passports lost by the Home Office is at a five-year high, which has led to criticism from the MP for Bath. The cost of applying for a new passport has also increased for the first time in five years, from £75.50 to £82.50 for adults and from £49 to £53.50 for children. Postal applications for passports have also increased, with fees of £93 for adults and £64 for children. The fee hike is intended to help the Home Office reduce reliance on funding from general taxation and improve its services.
