Tens of thousands of children have disappeared from school and authorities have no idea where they are, figures seen by Sky News can reveal.

On a single day in spring this year, local authorities in England reported an estimated 24,700 children as missing education – a worrying snapshot of the crisis facing schools.

Sky’s People and Politics Correspondent Nick Martin had access to Blackpool Council’s Pupil Welfare Service to see the work involved in tracking these children down.
