Rachel Reeves says Britain’s future lies inside the European Union, arguing that Brexit has made the country poorer, weaker and less secure. The former chancellor set out her position in The Sunday Times ahead of a speech at Harvard.

Reeves says supporters of rejoining must demonstrate practical benefits. Her intervention comes ahead of the UK-EU summit on 20 November, with youth mobility and defence cooperation among the issues under discussion.

In other news, Celebrity Traitors winners Romesh Ranganathan and Sebastian Croft split their £83,000 prize fund between two refugee charities. Ranganathan selected the Refugee Council, while Croft chose Choose Love, giving each organisation £41,500.

The celebrity edition awards winnings to contestants’ chosen charities. The Refugee Council welcomed the donation from its patron Ranganathan to support its work helping refugees rebuild their lives in Britain.

Duncan Barkes discusses the big stories of the weekend with Conservative MP and former Cabinet minister Esther McVey.
